Carol Stansfield, LPC, MS, NCC Licensed Counselor, Author
When you are a child, everyone tells you to grow up. But growing up too fast often robs us of our best qualities: creativity, joy, curiosity and playfulness.
Kids are born super. They have a strong sense of self, love, acceptance and empowerment. They genuinely express their emotions and learn through play and exploration. Part of this process involves making lots of mistakes. They live in the moment, free from social norms and expectations, and they know how to be themselves. As they enter school, many begin to learn that it’s not okay to express themselves openly. This creates a division between how they are feeling and how they present themselves to others.
My goal is to help kids think about themselves in a positive way, to encourage them, and remind them of their own unique gifts and strengths. Learning to stand firm in who they are builds self-confidence, and gives them the resilience they need to cope with life’s challenges. I want to empower children by teaching them the skills they need to thrive and grow and reach their true potential.
Happy, healthy children grow into happy, healthy adults leading meaningful, joyful lives. That is my wish for every child.
